The greatest of all English writer was born on 23rd April 1564 at stratford on-avon. His father John Shakespeare was the leading citizen of the town and at one time its mayor. His mother Marry Arden, belonged to the landed gentry of Warwickshire. He received his early schooling at stratford Grammer School. In 1582, at the age of 18, he married Anne Hathway, a farmer's daughter 8 years older than himself. He left Statford for London and joined dramas. He played some roles in dramas but soon he started writing plays and some of his popular plays are: 'Merchant of Venice', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Julius Caesar', 'As you like it', 'Hemlet', 'The Tempest', 'Macbeth', 'Othello', 'King Lear'. After a very successful career as a dramatist, Shakespeare returned in 1610 to Stratford and died on 23rd April 1616. He was buried in the chancel of the church at Stratford where a monument has been erected over his grave.
